Body Decoration At Its Best, Or Worst? Tattoos
No matter who you are or what your station in life, I am sure you have an opinion about tattoos. Everybody does, but it is very rare that you will find an indifferent opinion toward them. Some think tattoos are a form of expression and are beautiful, and yet others view them with disgust and have no idea why anybody would want a permanent synthetic mark on their body.
Tattooing is an art form that has been around for thousands of years and involves embedding ink under the skin, causing a permanent mark. The modern way to achieve this is by needle. It has been an integral part of tribal culture for longer than history has been documented but is now a form of body art. There are millions of tattoo designs owing to the individual often designing his or her own tattoos.
Before getting a tattoo, there are many factors to consider. Rather than following the pack, you must decide whether getting a tattoo is right for you. Do you feel comfortable with having one and being marked for the rest of your life? Are you comfortable with the stereotype that may be attached to you if you do get a tattoo? Many people who have tattoos often have images that are important to them personally. For example, children’s names are popular, as are tattoos denoting membership of clubs and crews. In England, the badges of the individual’s chosen soccer team are commonplace. These are the people who do not tend to regret having a tattoo. It is a constant reminder of certain moments that make them happy. Can you see yourself being content with a tattoo forty years down the road? Is the image you want one you will not regret? If not, then a tattoo is not for you.
A tattoo requires a lot of thought, not a sudden impulse that causes you to pick a random design that you are not even sure you like. By all means browse. Have a look at designs on the Internet or at your local tattoo parlor. Use those ideas to come up with your own design, one that you will be content with. Sleep on it for a few weeks and if you still want one, then go get it.
The placement of tattoos is also crucial. You can have it almost anywhere on your body so you need to decide where you will be happiest with it. The beauty of upper arms, legs, hips and your back is that any tattoos in those locations can be covered up easily enough, or put on show whenever you feel like it. I do warn though, rethink your tattoo if you want to have it done on your hands, face or neck because this may lead to discrimination. Employers are not likely to employ you because of the image it presents. And do you really want to be baited into a fight wherever you go?
The final decision you need to make is where you are going to get your tattoo. Choose a reputable parlor that is clean and well-maintained. The standard of hygiene should always be a priority because of the risk of contracting blood diseases like hepatitis and HIV. The needle that is used on you should be removed from its original packaging in front of you so you know that it is sterile. Get to know a few artists and choose the best one and consider the testimonials of friends into account. Finally, always take your time to approve a sketch of the final design. Remember, a tattoo is for life. |
